W.J. Harris & Co. Ltd.

Londen

Harris is one of the smaller English brands. The company was founded in 1870 by W.J. Harris as a reseller of sewing machines.

In 1880 Harris came into contact with a stroller manufacturer, where he took over the sales of the weekly production. He soon realized that there were only a few stroller manufacturers with a limited supply. This made him decide to make and sell his own strollers. Within a short time he already had a contract to supply a thousand strollers to one company.
His reputation grew so quickly that Messrs J.G. Murdoch & Co. invited him to form a partnership, but this fell through.

Harris was eventually taken over by Mothercare in the late 1970s.
